Agents are not hungry ghosts

This was a rather funny video.

I was shown this Facebook video poking fun at the life of insurance agents. The 2min video showed a few actors trying to roleplay as insurance agents, with the classic roadshow surveys and coldcalls. The video then contrasted the agents' expectations and reality. For example, the roadshow expectation was that people will stop and answer the surveys willing. However, the reality is that most people will give all sorts of excuses to run away.

Actually, watching this video did bring back some good memories of my starting years. As I mentioned in my earlier post about coldcalling, this was one of the ways to reach out to fresh prospects. No matter how extroverted we can be, our network of contacts is only that wide when we graduate from school.

There was one part of the video which really tickled me. There was this female agent who managed to arrange for a lunch appointment with a female prospect, however it turned out that the female prospect was instead trying to sell her some other product. This situation did happen to me before. The most common was real estate agents who tried to phish for information on whether I have bought my property yet LOL. Seems the video disclaimer was correct "(9 in 10 insurance agents) all chio ka peng".

End of the day, agents please treat your prospects with respect and likewise prospects should also not dehumanize agents.
