Seriously... what were they thinking?
So the story to this was a male chiropractor and two (male and female) insurance agents were charged in court on 22 Jan for cheating an insurance company by submitting fake personal accident claims for treatment received at the chiropractor’s clinics. They instigated patients to receive treatment for pre-existing medical conditions at the clinics, and to purchase personal accident insurance policies. The patients then made fake personal accident claims against the policies for injuries purportedly sustained after the purchase of policies. The patients would then receive payouts from the insurer for their chiropractic treatment.
Honestly, what the heck??? This is stupid for a few reasons. First, this fraud could have been crossed checked by the insurer. The insurers' underwriters may suspect the increased number of claims coming in from a particular clinic. Second, how much can the agents hope to earn from the commission of accident insurance policies? Unless the sale of these policies were meant to entice the patients into purchasing other plans, but this would complicate matters further as they would have to declare their pre-existing medical conditions. Third, at the risk of getting caught, these agents stand to lose A LOT.
No matter how, I am glad that such shady agents have been weeded out. The insurance industry becomes cleaner and there are two less competitors for me! HAHA
