Fighting back online scams

We can always learn something new

I recently came across an online post https://www.facebook.com/sg.guy.9/posts/3645243632214173 mentioning about a online scammer. The post claims that a China woman had used a fake profile photo on WeChat to cheat victims of their money. Her WeChat account is real but her WeChat country location is fake.

Apparently this scammer has been so successful that there are already hundreds of foreigners and Singaporeans who have been deceived. She has lurked on many international social networking sites to defraud many victims.

The story goes is when she finds her victims, she would bring them into a foreign gold stock market to open an account. Victims are then cheated into putting their money in and eventually transfer funds into her pocket.

Police reports have been made against this scammer. I hope the victims get justice.

Well, if there is to be a good part about this whole story, it seems there are ways to fight back against such fraud. According to the original post, Chinese scammers can be reported to the Chinese cyber police. The website is called the "Internet Crime Reporting Center".

Hopefully none of us need to use this website. Stay safe from COVID-19 and online scammers during this Circuit Breaker!
