Mothership took TODAY's story without attribution

Is plagiarism accepted in today's society?

Mothership had been called out by TODAY for wantonly plagiarizing its article without crediting them. On 22 October, TODAY published the article about a new peer-to-peer car sharing platform called "Drive Lah". On the next day, Mothership published the same article on "Drive Lah" but did not attribute TODAY as its source. TODAY tweeted to Mothership, "Hey we see that you have picked up our story but there was no attribution."

Needless to say, this was rather awkward and embarrassing for Mothership. If anyone bothers looking at their past articles, you can see that Mothership has been ripping articles and ideas from various media outlets, and then republishing it as their own content. In a way, it is almost like copying someone else's information and rewording them before submitting your homework.

It is arguable how one chooses to see this. Was Mothership plagiarizing? No matter how, Mothership's journalistic style seems to work as its articles get substantial attention. Perhaps this is what society finds acceptable these days.
