Racism still exists in Singapore

mssywung

It saddens me to know of such people.

Below is an online post made on the social media Reddit. Based on the context given in the story, it seems rather certain that the post starter is a Singaporean Chinese. The lengthy post was an anecdote of the post starter's racist relatives (Note: the post starter does not appear remotely racist), and how he had taught a lesson.

During one of his relatives' racists rants, the post starter took "revenge" by hurriedly eating some awesome chicken wings and depriving the racists of food. Two thoughts came to my mind after I read this post:

Firstly, I was simply disgusted by how the racist relatives had chosen to demean Indians. The nonchalant manner in which they discussed such views also peeved me. Like hello, this is already 2019. Shouldn't people have wised up?

Secondly, I am heartened that the post starter decided to take some action (despite the impact being small). It signals to me that the younger generation of Singaporeans know racism is a sensitive issue and one which should not be taken for granted.

We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion...
