Singapore priorities

This is just a simple rant.

So after all the fanfare about the 14th of Feb being Valentine's Day and all, I realized things had quietened down to the point where it seems the population has come to a standstill today. As I was driving to work, my radio blared on about today being Total Defence Day. I thought it was strange that there was almost nothing to mark this important day. A check on Google showed there is almost no interest in Total Defence Day!!

To bring some context, during my time in school, Total Defence Day was taught to us to be the day Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15 Feb 1942. But these days, the significance of this day appears lost to most of us. After all, who would give a heck about something which happened 77 years ago?
