This is why people keep their NRICs to themselves.
So the one-time presidential hopeful Tan Kin Lian had stirred controversy yesterday. Tan Kin Lian went ahead to post his personal details, including his NRIC, mobile number, email address, and date of birth. His point was to prove that there was no big deal in releasing such personal information.
Looks like Mr Tan is not in tune with the horrors of the internet, in particular the online trolls. Someone went ahead to make six unsuccessful attempts to log into his SingPass, and this effectively blocked access to his SingPass. Mr Tan then went on to complain in another Facebook post about how GovTech should improve its systems when dealing with such abuse.
This morning, Mr Tan kindly informed the public that online trolls have continued to misuse his personal details. This time, someone had allegedly used a bot to register his email address in several mailing lists. Mr Tan had warned the troll that he has been committing an offence under the Misuse of Computer Act. However, I think this person will not be deterred by such a law.
Mr Tan, welcome to the naughtier side of the internet. Moral of the story, everyone please continue to keep you personal details confidential.
